March 8, 2019, UPOU Women’s Month Kick-Off Program

UPOU Office of Gender Concerns in partnership with the All UP Academic Employees’ Union-OU Chapter (AUPAEU-OU Chapter), All UP Workers’ Union-OU Chapter (AUPWU-OU), and Sierreza Zero-Waste Store and Artisan Cafe, organized the UPOU Women’s Month Kick-off Program on March 8, 2019. This event included a short talk about women empowerment and the essence of Women’s Month in relation to the employees’ union and its advocacies.

The UPOU GAD Freedom Wall was also launched at the Main Building lobby in celebration of the International Women’s day. Ms. Victoria Belegal (AUPWU-OU Chapter President), alongside Mr. Larry N. Cruz (AUPAEU-OU Chapter President), shared a brief history of unionism in the Philippines and some of the male-dominated unions in the country. They also talked about the unions in the UP system and how women empowerment is essential in the union. According to Ms. Victoria Belegal “UPOU GAD Freedom wall is a great way of voicing out concerns and thoughts for the employees.”
