UP Open University participated in the annual “Walk for a Cause”, the Women’s Month Kickoff Program organized by the local government of Los Baños, Laguna, in celebration of the International Women’s day on March 8, 2019. Up before sunrise, participants walked from the Trace College grounds to the New Municipal Hall of Los Baños.
The walk is an initiative towards the prevention and treatment of cancer in women. According to Karen Lagat-Mercado, Development Management Officer of GAD Los Banos, “Women often find they have cancer when it’s too late, this is due to their reluctance to see a doctor or lack of financial capacity”. Besides raising funds, this event includes free services for women, such as medical diagnosis and illness treatment.
